Unfrozen

Like tulips in winter
dormant beneath the snow,
frozen in time awaiting
the sun's life-giving warmth.

And here, even where shadows still loom,
desire stirs like roots in thawing earth,
quiet, insistent, reaching toward light.

The impossible spring of wanting,
in a garden once burned.
